Cautionary Tales for Children is originally written by Hilaire Belloc to admonish children (8-14 years old) on the deadly consequences their naughty behaviours could cause in the form of poems. Although each tale ends with a tragedy, the "satiric assaults on upper-class Victorian society" (Tomkins, 2017) hidden in the book were found to be appealing to adults. 

As the illustrator of the group, I lead the design and illustration of characters, animal and some backgrounds which enhance our storytelling visually. We went for a semi-realistic style with a low value colour palette to create a mysterious, gloomy feeling targeting at adults and echoing with the dark humour in the poems. All characters were painted with emotions expressed through textured brushstrokes and the way they were posed brings out their unique personality. The layouts, typeface and illustrations were beautifully blended with each other to bring adults into a "children" world with dark humour.
